Hey Hunters,

The development march has begun! Since the end of the campaign we’ve been doing a lot of administrative work also talking to our partners and updating all details about the project in light of such an incredible campaign.

Moreover, we're keeping up the design process and scheduling a detailed program to carry out the entire development. The world of Thyrea is coming to life and in one of our next updates, we will show you a summarized timeline of the project in order to keep you informed about the status of the work.

Now, let's jump into today's announcement :)


TTS demo is live

Many of you have been waiting for this! We are happy to announce that the digital demo of the game is now available on Tabletop Simulator :) This give you the opportunity to play the Prologue scenario of the Campaign mode as well as "The Earthquake", which is a one shot Expedition where you encounter a huge Toramat in the rocky desert of Arras.

Note: Tabletop Simulator is required in order to play the demo

Please, consider the demo does not include miniatures (we will consider adding renders in future updates of the demo) and some game components may slightly change during the next development steps.

Here is a quick overview of the demo content: 

The Vyraxen you encounter in the Prologue is an example of balance between all basic concepts in the game, with a stress on the control mechanics. The monster poses obstacles to the player's actions breathing Fire that interrupts your sequence and featuring powerful passive effects that make it more challenging for the players to execute their combos and playing optimal sequences. While the Behaviours' pattern is kept quite simple, as the game goes on Vyraxen builds combos that you may want to anticipate and find a way to prevent. 

Suggestion: play defensively in the first turns as you start learning the Behaviours' pattern; move around the monster (hide in the Brush!) in order to hit its tail when you have the opportunity, but choose wisely the moment to benefit from the completion of the Objective!


Toramat is what we call a "tank" monster. It is able to buff its defense through Armor tokens and it can be very hard to hit. Also, it becomes tougher as it accumulates struggle, so you cannot ignore manoeuvres if you want to keep the challenge reasonable. At the same time, the fury of the monster also becomes its weakness: thanks to the Objective card you may be able to make Toramat crashing into the surrounding rocks! 

Suggestion: You might have only a few damage windows, especially in stance I: concentrate big damage in a single turn. From stance II on, it's all about correct use of manoeuvers and resource management (rock terrains and cards to trigger the Objective). And of course, the Plateau terrain is an epic opportunity ;)

Through the "The Earthquake" scenario you can try out some pre-constructed decks with associated builds for the hunters. Let's have a quick look at them to see what awaits you!


DAREON, GREAT SWORD

The strategy of this Shimmerblade deck is to create opportunities to play multiple attack cards generating a powerful combo in a single turn. However it's not easy to get 3 attacks in hand, as required by the weapon ability text. That's why Red Dragoon Helm and Reefbound Plate are included in the build. They really help to empower your hand and go through your deck faster to look for the attack cards you need.

A quick mention for Lacerate, which is a great example of a key card for this deck. Pull off a sequence of 3 or 4 Slash cards and you will experience an epic turn! How much damage will you be able to deal in a single turn?


LJONAR, SWORD & SHIELD

Do you want a full defense-support build? This is definitely for you! Hornwall is a phenomenal support weapon that makes your allies draw cards every turn when you play a Parry card. Played in conjunction with Shield Master , it creates an incredibly solid synergy. 

For Ljonar, the full set of Horn equipment cards revolves around the concept of stamina and card cost: you have an extra reserve of stamina thanks to Blackbone Armor, so you may want to add cards with high stamina costs to your hand (using Bone Helm) and you have the versatility to play them into your sequence or to use them to help your teammate drawing cards with Hornwall's ability. Then, there is that wonderful card named The Big Jaws ;) Basically, the Aggro is yours; and when you decide it's the crucial moment, let the monster come into your trap!


MIRAH, GREAT BOW

 Abyss decks are centered around a solid control-oriented strategy. There are a lot of synergies that can be built around it. Here, the strategy is to focus the Mastery card while providing a significant control over the monster's struggle engine. The main idea is to exploit both Reefbound Plate and Crystal Helm's ability to be able to trigger Abyss as many times as possible during the game. The benefit is that while controlling the monster, not only you have Stealth for eventual attacks, but you also have access to a large range of cards each turn. From those cards you can choose the right ones to put under Blast, which is the key ability for this build.

Moreover, as a very impactful addition, don't forget your Crystal Spear: while collecting manoeuvres, if you manage to have 3 or more in your hand, you may have access to an outstanding source of damage!


THOREG, HAMMER 

The concept of this build is to deal the maximum amount of damage with a single attack card, which is a strategy that can be easier to be executed with respect to complex sequence combos. The Woltyar Gauntlet are a solid choice for this, especially with the Fire elemental synergy. Then, Bone Helm and Red Scale Armor are a good resource to keep your hand healthy and to always have an attack ready to be played each turn. Then, Burning Stone drives your tactics: empty your hand as many times as possible in order to buff your next attack damage. 

For Thoreg, having to empty the hand can be very intriguing if we include cards like Adrenaline or Sledgehammer in our deck that really shine in this picture.

The PDF rules has been updated. We added corrections and improved certain passages in the text to make it clearer; thanks to all of you that gave feedback on that! Please, consider that an extensive proofreading process will be necessary to get to the final version of the document (this is just the previous version with appropriate corrections and updates). 

Finally, a few words on some relevant topics:

Failed payments: In case you had payment issues, please feel free to reach out to us via private messages or via email ([email protected]); we will do our best to restore the information and recover your pledge in view of the Pledge Manager.

Pledge Manager update: we confirm we will open the Pledge Manager on BackerKit platform. Since we need to further work on shipping tables for the project, we expect that it will take us a few months from now to open the PM. We will keep you updated as soon as we have a more precise date.

While waiting for today's last unlock which is coming in the next hours, we break the 'daily update' rule to talk about the Expansions :)


Expansions Details

Expansions focus on adding content and variety to the game, covering all the key features of the game: Monsters, Crafting and Hunters. Let's start from the element Expansions: Curse of the Sapphire,  Myths of Urobhoro and Borealis Wind!

New Monsters

Primal is about spectacular and intense big boss-fights. When you challenge a monster you feel like you are fighting a living creature that constantly reacts to your tactical manoeuvres and decisions.

Each monster has its own personality and interacts with you in a completely different way to create a unique puzzle to solve cooperatively. A new monster means a different game experience.

This is why these Expansions add so much to both the Expedition and the Campaign mode.


How are Expansions integrated into the campaign?

Each Expansion focuses on a new different region of Thyrea, bringing new hunts, storylines and game content that is added to the Campaign mode. 

At the start of the campaign you build your Quest deck by simply putting together all the Quest card you have. Each Quest card is numbered and the Scenario book will tell you which Quests to unlock at each turn of the campaign, based on the path you are following as well as on the achievements you have gained and the choices you made.

All Quests provided by the Expansions are interconnected with the ones in the Core game to expand the depth of the story as well as the possibile branches of the campaign.

Prepare to follow the paths into the Jungle of Quaraja, or to lead the expeditions to the far north at the edge of the known continent, or to adventure into the eastern marshlands to investigate mysteries about the ancient cult of the Serpent.

Finally, with the addition of Nightmare decks, Expanded lore, Legendary quests and Legendary rewards as stretch goals, the expansions are even more dense of contents and they will enhance your campaign experience with even more stories and secrets about the world of Thyrea!


New Forge and Crafting options

Each Expansion adds a completely new crafting element and it opens to a great variety of new builds and new combination of weapons, armor and other gear.

With the additions of Feather, Frost and Venom Expansions each class has access to 13.000+ possible builds (without taking into account combinations of Potion cards)! This means that each one of you (10.000+ backers) could have a different build!!! :O

Feather equipment is all about hand-size and mobility. If you want to be light and fast, this is the way to go!
Venom equipment plays with your discard pile and is centered around the concept of weakening the monster and inflicting Bleeding (causing several small damages across the turns).
Frost gear is mainly about the Slow keyword. When you inflict Slow to the monster, it will skip its orientation phase between players and you may also remove any acceleration token it might have.

Chronicles of Mount Havoc

This is a different Expansion that focuses on Hunters. Not only this Expansion allows for a 5th player to join the game, but it adds two completely new characters with their own ability decks, mastery cards and equipments. Let's see some sneek peaks about the new classes.


Karah - Dual Blades

The Dual Blades class focuses on long sequences, card pairing and mobility on the board. Karah can pull off combos like no other characters in the game; and she can also move through the monster and multiple times during the same turn, giving more control over the board state.

 Heleren - Heavy Gun

The Heavy Gun is built around a special mechanics which is Bullet cards. Many cards in Heleren's deck are marked with a Bullet symbol (1 or more bullets!) and they are called Bullet cards. Bullet cards are used as resources and can also trigger effects and abilities on your actions. 

A standalone 3-scenario Campaign

A group of hunters made an important discovery on the slopes of mount Havoc, but something unexpected happened... some of them survived to tell their story and report what they have seen with their eyes.

The Chronicles of Mount Havoc also offers an additional standalone mini-campaign composed of a serie of 3 encounters linked together by a spin-off story that can eventually serve as an alternative Prologue to the main campaign!

The plot of the Chronicles of Mount Havoc is mentioned during the core game campaign (even if you don't own the expansion) as it is connected with the events of the main story.

The standalone 3-scenario campaign is perfect to step into the Campaign mode having an agile 2-3 game sessions experience.

Upgrade your Pledge - FAQ

A few hours remain if you are interested in upgrading your pledge!

We would like to remind that, accordingly to our updated FAQs, you will be able to upgrade your pledge during the pledge manager. However, please consider that upgrading from "Thank you!" level (1€), will be considered as "late pledge" and so the price for the pledges will be slightly higher (you can expect a 10€-20€ increase). Note: we specify that if you upgrade from Core pledge level to Gameplay All-in or Everything Primal levels, the price will stay the same.

The Awakened - The End of the Campaign!

Hey Hunters,

We are entering the very final hours towards the end of our campaign!!! We think this is the best moment to introduce you to the epic finale in the game :) 

We cannot spoil anything about the lore of this creature. All details will be discovered through the campaign itself: its background story, real name, origins, motivations, instinct, powers, connections etc. This will be YOUR story and it will immerse you for a dozen of game sessions. So, what we can do is just to talk about how the grand finale of the campaign is handled from the gameplay perspective!

The Awakened

The final confrontation will be an epic one. Not only the monster will have more than the 3 normal stances, but the composition of its deck will be determined by the achievements and the special rewards that you unlocked during the campaign! 

Did you uncover that secret about the Temple of Hyris? Well, you could add an appropriate specific objective card to the final boss-fight!

Did you manage to save the lone hunter you encountered in the desert of Arras? Maybe he will appear in the final battle! 

Have you completed the side quests Pan gave you? Did you choose to invest resources to investigate on that ancient rituals under the crystal caves? You could have discovered a weak spot of the Awakened!

Everything you have done through the entire campaign converge to this moment and it will shape the gameplay of the final event.

We don't want to show any of these, like it was a mystery box you will have to uncover!


Last Unlocks!

Finally: the last stretches for this campaign!

Yeah! You already noticed it: we are unlocking a new board art which represent the epic environment of the final boss-fight! :) 

The alternate version of the board received many votes in the survey. We also liked the idea a lot with respect to other options, so we didn't have doubts! The final battle deserves a unique and immersive environment!

If you are wondering about what those symbols on the stones are,  we cannot tell you :)

If you are wondering if the Noeprene Mat is automatically upgraded to a double-sided mat due to this stretch goal, well, the answer is YESS!!!

Through the "Secrets of Thyrea" and "Legendary Quests" we added new content and new storylines to the game. Following this path, we decided to unlock new cards for The Awakened (Behaviour cards, Objective cards, Peril cards and Stance cards) that furhter expand the possibility of the final AI deck. These cards are associated to the discovery of those Secrets and to the completion of those Legendary Quests.


People in Thyrea will talk about your final battle for years! Everyone will add new epic details everytime they tell the story. So, we decided to create multiple "End Game" Expeditions, with different setup conditions, that could evoke those stories through one-shot fights!

We highly recommend to play this only after having finished the campaign at least once, anyway, for those of you that like one-shot experiences, this is your chance to face the highest challenge in the game.

Finally, here we are! Day after day, with your contribution, we have built a Stretch Goal box which now becomes a free Kickstarter expansion for everyone!


Final Hours

Hunters!

It's time to celebrate!!! Primal: The Awakening is officially funded with an outstanding support!!!

It's difficult to find the right words. We want to thank you so much for making all of this happen and for your participation through this whole campaign! You have been awesome since the day 1. You gave us suggestions, ideas and energy to keep running this campaign at best until the very last seconds.

It's been an incredible experience for us. 

For the last two years we have put all of our effort, our emotions and passion into this project. It's been a long, a very long journey to get here. Now it's not easy to describe our feeling while we see all of our work being rewarded with such enthusiasm and excitement.

We are immensely grateful to all of you and we will continue putting extreme hard work and passion into this project to reward you with a truly amazing and memorable game.


What happens now?

The KS campaign is over, but our journey through Thyrea has just begun and we couldn't be more excited! :)

Let us give you just some quick info about what is going to happen now:

  • Kickstarter is going to collect and process pledges during these days. If for any reason your pledge is declined, you’ll have a window of 7 days to fix the payment!
  • Within 2-3 months from now, we will open the Pledge Manager (on BackerKit). At that time you will get an invitation from us via email to access the Pledge Manager. We will give you more details as we approach it.

In the meantime, we will keep you updated (every 3-4 weeks, starting from now) all along the process. We will share with you the progress we made and we will do our best to keep you engaged along the way.


Now, we are going to celebrate and also take rest :) This last month have been so emotionally and physically intense for us and we really need to recover full energies, sleep and "Stamina points" :D 

We will be back soon for the next update as we look forward to taking you all with us into the world of Thyrea.

New Monster Unlocked - Xitheros, the Dominant!

Hey Hunters!

We are now approaching the final hours and we are so excited to reveal a BIG unlock to celebrate the last days of the campaign! Let's welcome Xitheros, the dominant , which comes with a monstrous new model (97mm diameter base) as well as with new content for both Expedition and Campaign mode! 

Xitheros is a very rare monster belonging to the category of mutated creatures. Mutation is a weird phenomenon that is occuring in Thyrea and it is one of the main mysteries you will have to uncover during the campaign!

There is only one another mutated monster in the whole game. Can you guess it? ;)


Legendary Unlock!

To further expand the gameplay content, we are also adding additional stretch goals related to Xitheros!

Xitheros falls in the category of "aggro" monsters and it concentrates damage in specific moments of the game as it triggers its Primal Charge. It is quite slow to react but when it charges its big attack it is able to activate multiple Behaviour cards at a time, being absolutely devastating. Players have to learn its pattern and adapt to those dangerous moments in order to outsmart this monster.

Hunters also have a great opportunity with Severe Wound! This objective card allows to counter the ability of Xitheros by eliminating cards from its Behaviour deck. Will you be able to deal 30 damage in a single turn?


Last 24 hours!

With Xitheros we have unlocked all monsters for the game, reaching a total of 22 monsters and more than 50 unique AI decks! But the campaign is not over and there is still time for something special to be revealed tomorrow!
